Glitter and Gore

Hello again friends! I am back to share a quick little altered tin with you, made for our current Smudgy Antics challenge Glitter and Gore. For this challenge you do not have an option, you must use BOTH glitter and gore on your project for it to count, which is perfectly fine with me because I love both!

I decided to use a few Smeared Ink digis and combine them, they are the Profile Head from Gross Anatomy, the Mask 4 from our Venice set, and the Wave single from Circus Procession. Click any pics to view them larger.

I'm not really sure how the color scheme came about, but I used a seafoam green paint all over and then distressed with white. I decided to leave my profile head black and white with a pop of red for the gore, which I then stretched into the rest of the project. Then I added in my glittery mask and waves to make this tin both sparkly and grotesque... I think that goal was accomplished.

I'd love to hear your opinions, and be sure to try your hand at combining glitter and gore on Smudgy Antics; you have a little more than 5 days left to enter! Happy Monday :)

31 Days of Halloween:Day 2- Death Becomes Her

Welcome everyone to Day 2 of 31 Days of Halloween! How did you enjoy the hop yesterday? What an amazingly talented group of Wicked Bloggers, right? I know I was completely thrilled looking at all the projects; it definitely got my wheels turning!

Today we have even more for you, but first we have some sponsor information. Look above this post right under the sponsor ads...you will see a spot that says "Sponsor Winner for Saturday, October 1". This will be where you check winner information each time there is a sponsor prize to be given out. If the prize has not been drawn yet, you will see a message that says "Winner Coming Soon". Everyone has until 9am Pacific time to enter the scavenger hunt, basically until the next day's posts go live, so we will have the drawing shortly after.

Be sure to check back if the winner has not been posted yet! Our winner of the Rick St Dennis digi set will be posted today, and as we mentioned yesterday, you have an opportunity to win that digi set each and every day! So be on the lookout for a hidden picture today. When you find it, email us and let us know where it is so your name can go into the random drawing.

Now I'd like to share with you my project for Day 2. If you were around last year, you got to see part of my Halloween decorations in my house. I tend to go more for the distressed, creepy, eerie feel with just a little gore for good measure. Alot of this stems from me having young kids in the house. Anyways, my project today is the perfect example of that creepy style.

It is an altered jewelry box drawer mirror thingy that I found at the thrift store. It started out white and ended up, well, creepy.

I stared out by distressing with layers of paint, using my heat gun as I went along to burn and bubble. Then I added my doilies with modge podge and added more layers of paint. After it all dried, I distressed with Distress Ink, Kona Crackle, and more paint. Although it looks gold in the picture, the colors on the project are actually white, grey-blue, and brown. While everything finished drying, I worked on my mirror.

The Skull Front image is from Smeared Ink's Anatomy 101 digi set. I printed it out on cellophane and then wrapped my mirror. Super easy, and it produces a stunning reflection effect!

The flowers are made using sewing pattern paper, and I colored them up with some distress inks to make them look like old, dried flowers that had been sitting there a long time. The leaves are actual dried herbs from my garden.

Here you can see the doilies that I added, along with the jewelry that will be on display. The pearls belonged to my Grandmother, who passed October 29; it's been twelve years this month. They are not attached to the project, but I thought they looked stunning! The rocks are Citrine.

Here is a closeup of the drawers and the doilies I added there as well.

I really enjoyed making this project. Although it was alot of work, it was actually very relaxing. I hope it gives you some inspiration!!

Now it's time to hop through the other Wicked Blogs to see some superb art! Don't forget to leave your comments if you are a Horrifying Hopper, and have fun!!

Artie Graduates!

Today I am sharing a card made with Artie, Smeared Ink's Graduation Li'l Grumpie. He is available as a digi image for a limited amount of time in our shop, and can be purchased when you spend $20 or more. Check out the June Specials link when you get to the shop. He is so fun to work with, and super cute in a grumpy sort of way!

I made this card for my cousin who graduated this month. It's pretty simple, using background papers and a "You Rock" saying. I really like the layout on this one because even though it's simple, it really catches your eye. Basically I just colored in Artie, mounted different layers, distressed edges, and added eyelets.

Isn't he adorable in his cap?

Twisted Tuesday Materials Challenge: Real Fairy

Welcome to the third installment of Twisted Tuesday. Last week's material was safety pins, and again our winner is Kelli! She made an awesome mini chipboard journal using safety pins as embellishments. View her submission HERE. Kelli's work has been a hard act to follow...this week will someone challenge her reign as Queen of Twisted Tuesday? Let's see...

Here is the way Twisted Tuesday works:

* I will post a new challenge each week. The challenge will be to use a specific material on your project. The material may be a store bought supply, an item you can find around the house, or a repurposed or recycled object. I will post a sample to go along with the challenge.

*You can make a card, scrapbook page, altered item...pretty much anything you want as long as it is stamped somewhere on it and uses the specific material.

*You will have until Sunday night to comment on my post with a link to your entry.

*I will choose the winner and announce on the following Tuesday. The winner will receive a material that they can use in a future challenge!

Here's the challenge for this week...

Thrilling Thursday

You want more cards, you say? Well, welcome to Thrilling Thursday, the day that I post two for the price of one! Actually, you get to see them for free, but you get the idea.

After a fabulous blog hop yesterday, I was totally inspired! And by the way, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! to all of you who visited and posted comments for me and my fellow Bombshells, we love to hear the feedback! I'm so glad you enjoyed my interpretation of Sarah K's challenge; I forgot to mention that you can enter your own design for the challenge by visiting
The Bombshell Stamps Forum- September Challenge.

Now back to the thrill of today! Like I said before, I was absolutely inspired by the hop and had to sit down and create my heart out! I thought it would be fun to set some guidelines for the cards to make them fresh and interesting. So, when you view these two cards together that look NOTHING alike, you may think to yourself "they have nothing in common", but that is where you are wrong my friend!

They actually have two very distinct things in common. First, for both I used acrylic paint and everyday objects to apply the acrylic paint. Second, they are both made from scraps. I dove deep into my scrap bin and came up with long lost goodness. So there you have it. On to the cards.

My first card was a bit of a challenge to me because I used an acrylic stamp set. I don't own too many of these because I usually don't like the way the images stamp, just my personal preference, but I do have to say I LOVE this one. I found it at Michaels. I stamped and embossed the image onto scrap turquoise cardstock, then added black glitter and silver paint around the edges. The background of the card was stamped with shelf liner (the rubbery kind that keeps cutting boards from moving) using paint in red and silver. I used some left-over sculpture paper, scrap ribbon, and bits and pieces of some charms that I had. I think the only "new" things on this card are the red brads.

My second card went in an absolutely opposite direction. This card was built around the sassy image, which is a digi stamp from Victoria Case. I found some scrap decorative paper and stamped a background image directly over it using green paint. I also found some different scraps of green background from a magazine and pieced them together. I love to save magazine pics that I like! This is also where the words came from. I layered these background pieces together and smudged ivory paint around the edges using my finger (that's an everyday object!)

After printing my country girl digi image, I colored her using prismacolor pencils and cut her out. She is "floating" with pop dots. The last few embellishments I added were the brown brads and the brown raffia ribbon. Once again, I think the only thing besides the image that were "new" on this card were the brads. And isn't she just so fresh with her country self!

So I hope I gave you a little thrill for your Thursday! Tune in tomorrow for Funky Friday, and don't forget if you want to see more or are interested in networking with stampers who enjoy gothic, vintage, and alternative stamping, join my new Smeared and Smudged Group. We're just getting started and would love to have you!

Cool Compositions & Blog Candee Winner!

Since school starts tomorrow for my girls, I thought it would be very cool to make my 16yo an altered composition book. Anyone who has kids knows that at least one of these black and white notebooks will be on their school supply list. They make them in neon colors now, but wouldn't it be so much cooler with a stamp?

I got the idea for this one after receiving an awesome digi-stamp from Carol at Altered Expression. This was one of my first attempts at using a digi stamp on anything other than a card, and it took a little bit of playing around since my printer ink runs when wet, but I think the end product is fab and I learned some interesting new techniques along the way!

I was also inspired by Gutter Girlz End of the Month MOJO: stamping with every day items using acrylic paints. This notebook received an all-out corrugated cardboard and leaf treatment!

Ooops...I almost forgot! Blog Can-dee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had so many people comment and follow, thanks everyone! The winner of Christmas Blog Candy is (and I really had my daughter draw out of a hat!):

KATHI!

Kathi, email me your address and I'll get your candy out to you ASAP. Congrats!!
